Cicadas

This is something I haven't been posting about ever since the beginning of the summer. Cicadas here in Texas have exploded from all the rain we've had recently, as well as major flooding but, here is a clip that I recorded two days ago. This species of cicada is the one species I like to call a summer siren, however there is more than one species if you listen closely. When I'm outside and the sun is about to set this is all I hear.

Enjoy :D

So Nice to see you mavin. :). now i know who i am talking to. yeah, post whenever you are inspired to do so. dont force yourself to just cos the blog exists. this is just a hobby or what could be a hobby and should be done for the pleasure of it, right?

as for writing, if you like to write, and are feeling uninspired then you could always read some great authors. you will get ideas.

i think the photos and the little snippets of your life are great.

the blog is also sort of a personal diary..of how ur life is going and how your own thoughts and perosnality are altering, taking shape. and it could be a platform for sharing your knowledge, the airforce sounds interesting, plus that you are a plane mechanic. and whatever else excites you. or perhaps you are looking for that passion to find what you would like to do in life.

me.. yes, im not fully back yet, but i will post something if im inspired i guess.. :) . i didnt want to lose touch with everyone. so brought the blog back.

i know cicadas, the first time i saw them i was horrified. such huge bugs! but then i got used to them, that they are harmless. :) altho the song does get on the nerves after a bit.

yes, my poem was written after a period of some turmoil. so you sense that. thanks!

Mystic,
I have to write with plesure otherwise I don't like to write, it ruins the mood and makes me want to write sadly. It's strange how moods persuade you in these ways.

Reading books helps me a lot and I try to read but again I have to have the time to read and most of the time I never do.

Thanks, there's something about you Mystic that makes me really happy that you're my blog friend and when you comment about anything whether it's photos or thoughts, you make my sad days feel brighter. Don't lose touch with everyone nor me,I love having you come around my blog even if it's only once a week, as long as you keep coming back that's all that matters, it's somewhat a loneliness without you here, you know.

Anyways, I find that funny that you were afraid of cicadas at first but don't worry I understand, and yes I also understand why they get annoying too, they used to to me too but I actually find cicadas very peaceful to the mind, I love hearing their songs, makes me feel more comfortable being outside. But the reason why I love them soo much is because I used to always catch them as a kid and grew a love for them growing up. Plus, I'm an entomolgist and have a love for most insects, not the bad ones though, like mosquitoes, I hate mosquitoes more than I hate city cock raoches.

I had a feeling that poem was about you and bad time you had back in your past, it could see it so clearly as I read it. But I'm glad you posted that because it let's me understand a little better of who you are as a person.

idk if there is any typos I did check but I hope you come by to read this, take care Mystic. :)

Oh yeah, also I was wondering, how huge would you say cicadas are in India I really want to know, I'd love to catch one and then show it to you and scare you, I'm kidding, LOL. :D But how big are they out there?

In India, I dont remember seeing any cicadas, ever. makes me feel really ignorant that I dont know much of the names of natural things around me.

Most of the species that we have there in common with whats here, seem to be much smaller, even mosquitoes and roaches(uggghh.. i hate roaches, im okay with spiders snakes i dont even like to think about or see pics even ,they are totally repulsive to me, so dont you dare bring them anywhere near me:) , we have cobras and pythons and other poisonous snakes in india, i remember visiting this snake park in chennai when i was about six, as part of a school trip and there were snakes(seemed like tons of them) hanging from trees overhead. that vision still terrifies me, or perhaps it was a nightmare :) ). cicadas im not scared of anymore, i realise they are harmless.

hi

nice blog there...

the photos are beautiful...love them...

you sure are good at them...hmm...there are few features in the sky which we dont see in india there..

Mystic: Sorry about the misconception I'm not a sad person, just when I happen to go through things that make me sad I like to read your posts and comments from you because they cheer me up. Oh believe me Mystic I have plenty of energy and I hang out with friend whenever I can but the things is about my friends is everyone is out of town now because of college or other things and I don't have many friends around me anymore like I used to. That is one thing that has made me sad. :( But don't worry and I'm sorry about that but I do get lonely and sad at times, but I've realized it makes me a good person though. Which is why I could see it in that poem becuase I've been through it myself and can tell when someone writes about it, sometimes written secretly sometimes obviously, I'm a very understanding person.

So that's where that photo was taken at, New York State is beautiful, never been but I know it's beautiful up there. :D

I doubt you're ignorant, you might not have paid much attention to cicadas or nature but it doesn't mean you're ignorant. Besides you seem to pay much attention to your surrounding in your literature, I read it all the time. I'm with you on cock roaches I can't stand them them either but only the city cock roach other cock roaches like the Madagascar Hissing Cock Roach I would have no problem with and others. But just that specific roach, that city, dark brown cock roach I can not stand! I wouldn't bring a roach to you, believe me I won't even pick up the thing but a cicada or other insect or animal I would but not poisonous or harmful of course, but I wouldn't want to scare you though, I was just joking around LOL :P. It would be funny though. :D

It's amazing you remember what you were doing when you were six years old, I hardly remember anything when I was that age, but a few memories.

As long as the snakes hanging from the trees weren't poisonous, like the cobra and I believe you have black mambas out there too, I would be in heaven to tell you the truth. I love snakes. :) They're incredible creatures.

Take care Mystic. :)

Vishesh: Thank you, I love your blog too, you have soo many.

I guess I'm good at taking photos, I've been getting that a lot lately.
I don't even try honestly I just kinda know what to do and how to make a photo appear nicely once taken.

It really just depends on rain clouds if there's rain you'll get clouds like that there and hopefully it's during the sunset.

Later and take care Vishesh. :)

incredible creatures???!
uggg..i thought you might like them, was wondering as i was leaving the comment why i was writing about them , i ususally never mention the word even. :)

good to know you arent ad, no need to explain. it sjust that you had mentioned a couple of times about your life at this point , and reading the sad bit, i wanted to tell you that. but yes, it is okay ot be sad, it makes us more human.

Rabindranath Tagore has said.. "the fulfillment of life comes not by forgetting suffering, but by daily turning sorrow into understnading, turning cruel into tender, and sour into sweet. "

And I also know you were teasing me when you said you would bring a cicada to me. I dont think you would ever hurt anyone. So dont worry about all this, I do understnad and you do not have to explain to me. :)

take care now. will be away for a bit.

Yes, I think we've talked to one another enough now that we need a break, lol, thanks though. :D

Photos are absolutely amazing. Are cicadas crickets? I'm gonna google it, but wow. Either you have millions of them, or their fit for the opera!

Acquaintance said...

Hi Singleton nice to have you swing by.

I'm pretty sure you found out already but no they're not crickets, they do sound a lot like crickets though but they are an insect that feasts on tree sap, they have a powerful needle underneath their body that penetrates through the bark of a tree and they have wings that cover over the sides of their body. If you go to my post called summer sirens you can see what a cicada looks like. I don't know where you live but I'm sure you have them, if you hear sounds in intervals up in the trees chances are it's cicadas. They're very beautiful insects, I love them. :)

This is very interesting; to capture the sounds of other creatures. I think that people who play music hear the everyday sounds of the world more acutely. It's like with visual artists. They don't just paint or draw beautiful things, the are able to process visual stimuli on a deeper, more intense level than most of us. A person who likes to write, plus words can = a poet. I have yet to meet a poet who isn't moody at times. I think it's part of the process of incubating a creation. A book you might like is "The Discovery of Poetry," by Frances Mayes. She was a Professor at my University when I was doing my undrgrad degree.

Hey Haiku, I didn't know you commented about this til I looked at my posts and noticed this post had an extra comment.

You know Haiku one thing I've noticed about poeple that play or even listen to music a lot is what you said, the sense of hearing becomes heightened. I've noticed it about myself, some people won't even pay much attention to cicadas til I say something about and then they ask what I'm talking about. While as others will find them annoying because they're too loud and are constantly communicatiing with one another.

Every single things you said about artist is so true. No matter what type of artist, they're so intensified with their work. It's a gift, whether it's a gift to love, draw, compose music, or anything it's so in-depth that only a person who could or does understand would know.

Think you'll ever meet one? That's a good point I never thought about that, most poems I read are always about a time in someones life when things went arye and downhill. But I've read poems that are cheerful and blissful too, so I guess it just depends. Sometimes and most of the time poets do write better when they're troubled by something or someone, it gives them something to write about but it doesn't mean they can't write happily either.

Frances Mayes, I remember reading her name in your profile. I'll have to go check out that book, just the name alone sounds interesting. That's nice that you got to have her as a Professor during your college days.

Btw thanks, to capture cicadas on film still isn't anything near listening to them in person and right next to them but at least by the time winter comes around again I'll have this clip to remember them with after they have died off in the cold weather.

Take care Haiku. :D
